About this place

Makawao's Komoda Store and Bakery is the sort of listing we keep for neighbors, not algorithms: a cozy dining room plus an easygoing pace, grounded in the area rather than trend copy.

Food at Komoda Store and Bakery is written in plain pleasures: house specialties beside plates built for sharing, with the kitchen's daily strengths as a reliable encore. It suits a slow brunch as easily as a quick weekday stop.

The visit works for casual dinners and low-key celebrations alike - dress is relaxed, mood is neighborly. Weeknights usually run quieter than weekends. The listing address is 3674 Baldwin Ave, Makawao, HI 96768.

We list Komoda Store and Bakery for diners who want substance over spectacle: good a solid meal, a human welcome, and a Makawao address worth saving.

Before you visit, skim recent neighbor notes on the listing and confirm hours on the door. Platefolk keeps this page as a field guide, not a frozen brochure - the best proof is still sitting down for a meal.

What we value here is consistency: a kitchen that repeats its strengths, a room that does not treat guests like tickets, and a Komoda Store and Bakery visit that still feels worth the trip across town. Bring curiosity, order something the staff recommends, and leave a short note afterward so the next diner arrives wiser.

I have Bought dozens of cream puffs at Komdas for over 30 years. Always good..Got a dozen today for a desert...Today they were not even close to fresh!!! Gummy shells had to have been days old. Stick donuts were hard and dry..Disappointed to say the least..So disgusted why would they serve this to any customer.

The Komoda Bakery is an icon in Makawao beloved by locals and tourists alike. Is it the *best* donut I’ve ever had in my life? No, but they are delicious, charming, and nostalgic. Plus, it’s simply worth the visit to this beautiful town. Don’t hesitate to go, try several goods, and enjoy the scenery. FYI it’s cash only under $10 so be prepared 🍩

Cute walk through the memory lane. The store showed a lot of the family history of the Komoda family so it's great that the store is still in the family. We tried about four of their donuts, cream puffs and malasada and they were quite soft and fluffy. Couldn't finish them all in one go so we kept some for the next day and they were not hard.

Got here right after opening for fresh stick donuts! I heard they tend to sell out. The store really has a no-frills, local feel to it. You also don't feel like you're being ripped off, as the prices are very reasonable. The stick donut was one of the best damn things I'd ever tasted. Would have loved to try other things but perhaps next time. There really isn't a reason to give this place any less than 5 stars. The service was friendly, and everything about the store met my expectations.

I love these unassuming hole-in-the-wall type shops that don’t care about decore and decorum because they’re singlemindedly focused on one thing: making bomb donuts and pastries. The malasadas and cinnamon rolls are excellent, and I had no doubt their other offerings are equally delicious. Plan to spend more than $10 if you only have a card, or bring cash. And take a stroll up and down historic Makawao while you munch on your goodies. It’s a good time, and a stop worth making.

When we tried 1st time, the store was closed. 2nd time we were early enough and it was open. The stick donuts are great but my favorite is Coconuts danish. Their baked goods reminded me of the old sweets in Japan when I grew up. I felt very nostalgic feeling. I loved the antique vibe in the store. I felt like I went back in a Time Machine. We loved the shopping bags that have many Japanese establishments in Maui. ❤️🥰

The guava malasadas are 👍🔥💯!! I didn't really like the cream puff because the filling isn't whipped cream, but like vanilla pudding. Bring cash or order more than $10 to use your credit card. The ambience could use some work, but I think this place is well known and doesn't need to be beautiful!!

Excellent donuts and great prices! We had the cinnamon sugar malasada donut, the donut stick, and a cream puff and all were absolutely delicious! The staff was friendly and patient as we asked questions about ingredients for an allergy. We were there in the late morning/early afternoon and while there were still selections, some offerings were out understandably. Highly recommend!Food: 5/5 | Service: 5/5Recommended dishesStick Donut, Donuts on a Stick, Donut Sticks, Malasada and Sugar Donuts, Donuts
